Watch Simona’s full review of the Sofsy mesh hold-up stockings in black. In this Glamissima video review, Simona tests the fit, softness, comfort and overall quality of these Italian-made fishnet hold-ups.

Sofsy stands out from the crowd before the stockings even come out of the box. The packaging is a simple paper and cardboard box rather than the usual cellophane sleeve, it arrived in perfect condition, and it proudly states that this is an Italian-made product. The eco angle is genuine: the recycling symbols on the box confirm that both the stockings and the packaging were designed to be properly recycled, a detail Simona explicitly praises. The composition is 88% polyamide and 12% elastane, with one non-negotiable care instruction printed clearly: hand wash only, a rule she reinforces with her usual reminder that hold-ups should never see the inside of a washing machine if you want the silicone band to survive.
Simona approaches this review with her usual honesty about fishnet: she is not a fan of the category. What wins her over here is the mesh itself. Here are the key points from her hands-on and wearing tests:
- A fine, small-gauge net, far from the coarse fishnet look, soft to the touch and soft on the leg
- A visually slimming effect: the fine mesh elongates the leg noticeably, both standing and with heels
- No compression or itching while standing or walking, unlike most fishnets she has tried
- A perfectly executed toe seam, so soft it never bothers the foot even when it shifts under the toes
- Two silicone bands inside the lace top delivering reliable grip throughout the day
The lace top is also where the honest criticism lands. The band is not particularly tall, almost plain for this kind of hold-up, and on her size 3/4 leg (she wears the M/L) it grips too tightly, compressing the thigh, rolling slightly and leaving a visible mark that can show under fitted clothes. Her assessment is direct: this band is proportioned for a size 1/2 leg rather than a true 3/4, so buyers between sizes should keep that in mind. She also notes that seated wear is where her fishnet skepticism resurfaces: sitting down, the weave starts pressing its texture into the skin, gently but noticeably, even though the mesh remains soft.
She styles the stockings in two outfits. The first is an afternoon and aperitivo look, a Divas dress with a dramatically open back, playful enough for drinks with friends. The second is a more elegant PDK dress, one she has used for presenting events, which can be worn alone or with its black cape: appropriate for an evening ceremony, adaptable for a bolder daytime look, and in her opinion perfectly at home in a club as well. In both cases the fishnet proves surprisingly versatile, pairing naturally with very different fabrics and styles, with the black mesh adding what she calls a touch of elegance in the sporty, suitable for women of all ages.
Her final verdict is positive despite her personal bias against the category. The Sofsy mesh hold-ups are well made, genuinely soft, flattering on the leg and Italian, with the tight band as the only real defect and the seated feel as a matter of personal sensitivity. She closes by recommending them both as a purchase and as a gift, with the usual advice to get the sizing right.
