Watch VideoGirlAry’s full review of the Calzedonia Talco 20 denier hold-ups, a soft off-white pair with a matte finish that turns out to be far more wearable than the usual bright white stockings.
Ary opens the session with the unboxing, and the first surprise arrives immediately: the shade printed on the packaging is harder to read than expected, and what looks like a plain white in the photo is actually Talco, a warm, slightly creamy tone. Once the stockings are out of the pack the difference becomes obvious, even if the camera struggles to render it faithfully. This is a 20 denier sheer, so the leg stays visible underneath and the colour reads as a soft veil rather than a solid block of white.
The most debated feature of this model is the top band. Calzedonia opts here for the classic construction, with an elaborate stitched decoration and a silicone strip that keeps the stocking anchored to the thigh. Ary is honest about it: she generally avoids this kind of finish and prefers the more contemporary hold-ups where the knit continues uninterrupted to the top, without any added band. At the same time she acknowledges that the decorative work gives the piece a genuinely sophisticated character, one that asks to be paired with something dressier rather than casual pieces.
For the first try-on she builds a bright, sunny outfit around a miniskirt, chosen specifically to put the stocking in the spotlight. The reference she cites is the main character of Amélie: a look that seems assembled at random from whatever was in the wardrobe, but is in fact planned down to the last detail. It works perfectly in daylight and, with nothing more than a change of shoes, it holds up for an evening aperitivo as well.
The second look moves in the opposite direction. A minimal black dress with thin straps, understated and easy to complete with a wrap for cooler evenings or with a knee-length jacket for a business lunch. The black and white combination is not for everyone, as Ary points out herself, but on the leg it works better than expected, and the Talco shade softens the contrast instead of amplifying it.
The final part of the video is dedicated to the details. With the light hitting the fabric at the right angle, the camera shows the knit close up along with the stitched lace band, making it much easier to judge how visible the top will be under a short skirt.
Here is what stands out from her review:
- The Talco shade is matte and slightly creamy, so it avoids the porcelain doll effect that pure white stockings tend to produce
- The 20 denier sheer keeps the leg visible and reads as a soft veil rather than an opaque layer
- The fit is accurate in size and the hold-ups stay in place for the entire session, across two full outfit changes
- The silicone band is elegant to look at but less comfortable for anyone used to modern seamless hold-ups
- The toe seams are the weakest point and remain noticeable while wearing them

Her verdict is balanced. The colour is the real strength of this pair, and the matte finish makes it usable in situations where a brighter white would be too much. The construction of the top band and the toe seams are matters of personal preference, and Ary is transparent about where her own tastes sit. If you are considering these hold-ups, this review gives you a clear view of how they behave on the leg in two very different contexts.
